Grand-prize winners were announced at the NACUFS National Conference July 16 in Dallas; judging took place April 28-30 by foodservice professionals from the more than 550 institutions that make up NACUFS.

Miami’s housing, dining, recreation and business services department received the following honors:

  PNC

Teaming up with Kiessling Architecture Inc., renovation to this 80’s SOM design and flagship bank location presented some unique challenges.  With 18’H ceilings, improving the lighting not only aesthetically and functionally, but environmentally as well, was the top priority as PNC strives for LEED certification on all its projects.  Maintaining the integrity of the original building design while integrating the new corporate branding and design standards was also critical.  Project completion: Fall 2011.

Coming soon......

     Scripps Center Lobby

Renovation to the Scripps Center Lobby from a simple food court seating area to an inviting and comfortable combination lounge and casual meeting area along with cafe style seating. Bringing the scale to a more human level without sacrificing the light or views is achieved through low profile ceiling clouds at varying sizes and heights.  The creation of public and private seating zones is achieved through the use of suspended wood panels and plantings to help define space without blocking views.  Large area rugs and upholstered seating help cut down on ambient noise accentuated by stone and glass surfaces.  Highlighting the space, is an artwork feature wall displaying pieces from the Mayerson Company's private collection. Project completion: Fall 2011

ID STUDENTS WIN 2010 PAVE DESIGN COMPETITION SPONSORED BY GODIVA

Ms. Seibert's 3rd and 4th year Interior Design students, as part of their design studio coursework, entered PAVE's (The Planning and Visual Eduation Partnership) international design competition sponsored by Godiva Chocolatier in which they were to design a 500 square foot "outpost" for Godiva Express which coincides with Godiva's new corporate direction of targeting a younger market.  First and Third place were bestowed upon two lucky students who will be attending the gala event in New York this December.  Special thanks go to Brandon McNett, the local Godiva store manager who graciously offered his time and input in the design critiques prior to submission to PAVE.

LOCAL INTERIOR DESIGNERS RECOGNIZED WITH TOP HONORS

 – The Rug Gallery, in partnership with the International Design Guild, is pleased to announce that two local interior designers have been recognized with top honors in the 2009 Designer Showcase Awards.

Tracey Priest Seibert, President of Harkness Design Group, was awarded $2,500 for her submission in this years’ national contest which featured a collection of coordinating custom rugs, purchased from The Rug Gallery, in the design of her client’s lobbies and sitting rooms.

“Receiving this award is truly an honor and I am grateful for such a supportive and sophisticated client as well as the opportunity to submit my designs,” said Ms. Seibert. (note: a portion of this work was completed by Ms. Seibert while employed by GBBN Architects.)

Jennifer Dumoulin, of Greiwe Interiors, was awarded $1,000 for her submission in this year’s contest.  Jennifer, who has won both $5,000 and $2,500 for her designs in previous years, used a custom-made area rug fashioned from Dabbieri carpet in this years’ submission.

“We know how talented both Ms. Seibert and Ms. Dumoulin are, and Cincinnati is lucky to have their creative and inspirational talent,” said Sam Presnell, owner of The Rug Gallery.

The Designer Showcase Awards, which celebrates its fifth year in 2009, offers the opportunity for North American designers to submit their work for this prestigious recognition.  Awards are based on individuality and the use of color, with emphasis on the use of floor covering in the overall design.

The Queen City Club (with GBBN Architects)     *2009 IDG NATIONAL AWARD WINNER!!!

Following the successful renovations of Macaroon and GR’s, QCC wanted to upgrade their public areas to better reflect the club’s new energy while maintaining its comfortable, traditional, and professional image. Custom rugs and furniture, new lighting and decorative mirrors to brighten the space, and relocated artwork from their extensive inventory are just a few highlights in the main lobby.  New faux limestone columns, coffered ceiling and decoratively painted elevator doors create a destination point in the adjoining elevator lobby.

Private Residence

The first  of several areas scheduled to be renovated in this bucolic out-of-the way home, the pergola that once stood unused is now a comfortable retreat for dining, relaxing and entertaining.  Lighting, rugs, furniture, accessories and recently planted wisteria & annuals complete this outdoor oasis.

What people are saying.........

".....we have enjoyed a wonderful office environment that is both functional and highly aesthetic. Most notably, the design has been a very effective marketing tool for us with existing and new clients as well as with new designers. First-time visitors typically make a point of commenting on “the great space.”  Tracey did an excellent job of capturing the spirit of our company and creating positive first and lasting impressions of our space."

                                                                                                                                    - Geralyn Curtiss, Owner. The Chesapeake Group, Inc.

"As Environmental Wall Systems sought a designer to lead our office/showroom renovation project, we required a team with an outstanding track record in design and who would also understand our concern for sustainability.  We selected Harkness Design Group on those grounds and were thrilled with the results they provided.  The level of service and attention-to-detail were exceptional; exceeding our expectations from start to finish."

                                                                                                                                                       - Matthew Groves, President. EWS Walls

"I just wanted to write a note of "Double Thanks" for all your design help in our Cincinnati and Columbus office facilities.  The renovation of both is complete and and our employees are thrilled with the outcome.  The simple office layout changes along with the vivid color scheme has really put a boost in our office morale."
